Cutting them?

I made the mistake of letting my hair grow for a year before i decided to stop combing it... now i am debating wheather or not to cut my hair to 3 to 4 inches then let it go from there... any suggestions?

It is not a mistake to let your hair grow before starting dreads. The longer the hair the easier it dreads. 3 or 4 inches is kinda short to dread, it is harder to get started. If you are wanting dreads go for it, but don't cut your hair first.
