lwash them leave them alone do not retwist just wash and seperate and ignore everything the salon tiold you

hey..... i agree with baba.... i started mine that way. and works great when u have curly hair.... mine started locking after 4 weeks..... tie the ends with elastic bands to keep them from untying....don't do anything about the untidy roots until the twists locks......
i would not use riubber bands that can cause over a dozen serius issues
