I don't know if i can help but it will be hard for dreads to start forming in short hair. As for doing what you are in dreading random sections of hair will give you dreads of mixed sizes as opposed to dreads that are more unform if you were to evenly section your head at the start.good luck with the dreading and DON'T USE WAX
Don't crochet either. It's very damaging. Most of the info you need is located on the right side of the screen. Good Luck!
