Dude, I see huge huge headaches in your future, especially at the temples. I am not sure if you are aware of it, but those bad boys will become the thickness of where the hair meets the scalp, so if you have a 4 inch section at the scalp of all the hair joined together, then you will have a 4 inch mature dread. Can you imagine the weight of them as they grow? Can you imagine how heavy it will pull on the scalp, especially when they are wet? Look at the size of the scalp area at your temples, headaches will happen for sure! Besides tension on the scalp causing headaches, it will also start to pull out hairs with the weight. Those just might take about 48 hours to dry when mature, they will be so fat, they will also be prone to mold, so you would have to be so careful that they completely dry out in between getting wet, that would be so hard to do when it rains out.
Okay, so what can be your future problems again, scalp tension, heaviness, mold, headaches, hard to sleep with them, did I say mold???
As cool as they would look, the problems over ride the coolness. If you want fat congos, consider dividing those, anything over an inch is considered congos. Once they mature and you really find out the problems you will have, it will be harder to separate them, you would have to slice them down the entire length with a blade.
Your hair, your dreads, your decision, but I feel I must let you know of the future complications you may have.
Peace

Well there you go Dreadlover, 4-8 days. Never met anyone with dreads that fat, perhaps that is why..........That works out to 96-192 hours. That also works out to 5760-11520 minutes. Wow....wow....that is a long time for dreads to dry. How on earth would you ever stay away from water that long?

Peace

They thicken as they mature. They end up the size of the secion of scalp the hair is in, not the hair itself. And that section looks MASSIVE. I had one thicker than that, I combed it out because it was already taking forever to dry and the sectioning was annoying. Dreads get heavier as they get longer and thicker, so imagine when your dreads are much longer and they're super-thick. Even worse when you wash them, mine are heavy-ish when wet already lol. Seriously not worth it. I mean, start off thinner and then in the future if you think they're too thin, then let them congo. Don't run before you can walk. They'll end up way thicker than you realise it.

Also, I don't consider mine very thick, and yet they are because no-one sells beads for my size dreads, I have to request it myself.

good point youd need a bracelet as a bead those will be as thick as your arm ..bicept

yours might not be this severe but close enough

might end up like this however still looking for the 1 pic that they probly will l0ook like well

the 1 on top will look like this guys

and how they looked earlier on

unless your a reggae musician whos doing well this looks probly not very job friendly

yea they shouldnt and cant descriminate but still you walk through the door and ..if they dont laugh it shows great restraint..its not very likely you'll be taken seriusly unless your an artist or musician

Okay guys, thanks for the tips

Luckily they were just joined by beads, so i removed them and separated the congos.

I will do some congos later on when they fully mature so that ill see what size they will be

Again, really glad that you guys told me that they might end up that thick :o

Also, since i have a couple of thin dreads, would it be ok to combine them? Once i do it ill upload a pic so that u guys can tell me if it will be too thick

how thins thin and whats wrong with thin thin dreads fill in the gaps between thick dreads

personaly id wait a full year if some thin ones congo accidently so be it otherwise keep em seperted cause they can congo unintentionaly and if 2 already big ones congo it sux but if a thin one congos with a thin..or thick 1 its not such a big deal

most of mine were very thin up till a few years ago when i let em congo at will

once mature u can get away with that as li]ong as u make sure none do get out of control
