i laughed when i read this. Do you really care what they think? kindness kills too. so just be calm and kind and in the end it won't matter what they say or do.

ignorance is bliss

People tend to project insecurities when faced with their own ignorance. I know what you are dealing with and feeling. When I have to tell people I have autism I tend to get the same type of remarks, jokes, comments, or people start talking slow like I'm mentally disabled. Thankfully autism has allowed me to completely not understand social situations and 10/10 times when I feel awkward in a situation like you're dealing with, I just leave. I've been told it's rude but I honestly don't see how it could be.

If they don't want to relate to you on a respectful level it's their loss!
