Hey all, I am new to dreadlocks (mine are only 3 weeks old) but I have been washing them with Whole foods 365 brand shampoo to wash my dreads. Its fragrance free and says on the bottle that it will not strip the scalp of its natural oils. I haven't had any problems with dandruff or much itching, but I want to make sure that the shampoo isnt keeping my hair from dreading. Does anyone have any experience with this shampoo? Thanks!
365 Shampoo from whole foods
no but i would highly dpubt its good for dreading can you post tye ingredients
i would very trongly recomend you get a real dread shampoo
www.dreadlockshampoo.com comes highly recomended ...its all i will ever use
comercial shampoos have residue (fragrence is not residue thats sent wich has to be airborn to smell it!) and they are conditioning i would stop using it and get a proper all natural dread shampoo (if u get fromthat site...liqu9d till mature then bars)

sodium myristoyl sarcosinate, - conditioner ... not good for dreads penetrates most lu]ikely leaves residues maybe toxic in higher concentraions being 1 of the 1st ingredients id call it a high concentration
cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, - skin iritant like sls though not as dangerouse it does nothing good for yor skin or hair , it might not be on the "warning avoid at all costs" lists but its not a recomended ingredient
disodium cocoamphodipropionate conditioning maybe toxic in high concentratios may weaken immune system
sodium cocamphoacetate, -conditioning contamination risks not thoroughly tested it is derived from orgnic coconuts but chemically altered no specifil]cly known health risks, emphasis on known..
skipped the salt
gluconolactone a solvent often found in digestive tracks of mammls sounds like stomach acids? im unsure
sodium benzoate, - a common food presservative and i think its digestive aid too..hmm odd ingredients for shampoos its a dietary additivfe
phenethyl alcohol prevents bacteria from growing in the shampoo
glyceryl caprylate, conditioner it would be a miracle if your hair dreas washing with neary 100% conditioners
citric acid penetrates inside the hair if strong enough dissolves it from the inside out
the last 4 ingredients are good for hair
but they all wil make it silky smooth and tangle free

That's all I use, is the dreadlock shampoo SE recommended, and only a couple times a week at most. I don't really find it necessary to 'wash' them a lot, just rinsing my hair daily if needed, it feels nice.

#1 thing I saw is phenethyl alcohol.......ALCOHOL. It's not good for your hair, it dries it out, which seems beneficialin the beginning, but long term effects are horrible. Soaring Eagle knows some really fantastic dread shampoos to use!!
