Hello Everyone!

For those of you who have not met me yet I am a relatively new member to the site and am one of the minds behind the "Why I Have Dreadlocks" campaign that was started last week by Angelina & SE.

I want to just say that the videos that have been released thus far are outstanding! Here is a list of the videos contributed thus far (Listed in no particular order. I apologize if your video is missing from this list--please let me know and I will add it.):

  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaG4nnOayUg
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lTvsxYDlC8
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5v9xUj-ANo
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbD4g6OCLeM

These videosare great and will definitely help build community and awareness of our community. Some notable things in these videos are:

  1. Why I Have Dreadlocks
  2. A short statement on your positive experiences with dreadlockssite.com and the support it provides you and the rest of the locked community.
  3. A link to the site provided in the video either visually, vocally, or in the description.
  4. A "tag" labeled "Why I Have Dreadlocks" so that way YouTube members can see all the videos lumped together when searching.

In speaking with many of you I noticed some concerns. Many members want to make a video but are not sure what to say. Simply put, state your reasons for having dreadlocks. The reasons why members are locked vary from "I like dreadlocks" to "Dreadlocks are spiritual" and everything in between. Some members that are locked for purely aesthetic purposes (ie. I like dreadlocks) feel like their reasoning is not "important enough" or "worth it" to make a video. I would like to stress that no matter what your reasoning is, you can make a video. In fact, I encourage those who feel they don't have "important" reasons to make a video because it will showcase to the non-locked community that dreadlocks are worn for many different purposes and that our community is diverse!

Let's make this an awesome campaign! Stay positive, to the point, and your video will come out great! Try and refrain from alienating wax users with anti-wax rhetoric as we want the entire locked community to hear our message and feel included! We hope to keep this campaign going on for quite some time! I'm positive, with your help, that we can make this campaign huge and show SE and the other dreadlockssite community members that we appreciate all they do to increase awareness! Keep the videos coming! One. -Marcus Acosta

2 more reasons i couldn't film:

Patient. i have no patience for anything. and with dreadlocks i have to learn to be patient. and wait for good things to come.

freedom. my hair is free, growing on its own, and doing its own thing. as i do the same. :)

SE, it is no longer simple to edit and add the new links to my original list in this post. Can someone help? I'm trying to add this user's video as the next on the list:

If you upload the videos with the same title to as many other video sites, like facebook, metacafe etc they will also gain in google ranking, just a tip I picked up from a Search engine optimization technique website. the more links out there to the same videos in different places the higher the ranking etc.

All my life I was taught to live a certain way . Believe a certain GOD , get a certain job , speak in certain terms ..... basically conform to what society's interpretation of what successful living is (whatever that means) . All my life I've tried to abide by the law , live by these rules andin my doing so , I expected life to be a lot different . When some tragically personal issueshappened in my life , I became dissallusioned with everything that I'd been taught . I became self aware , and simply began to reject the conventional way of thinking . I decided to grow my locks because I wanted to reflect on the outside , what I was happening , and also what I was feeling on the inside of me . New growth . Manhood . GOD . Family . Purpose .

I just made a video and I will link to it once it is uploaded! This movement is great, and it is also the reason I decided to become more involved with dreadlockssite rather than just lurking. Great to see people who actually DO rather than complain :)
