take hemp, or embroidery thread and wrap it around and around better yet di a macrame like fancier knotted wrap that lasts longer

or just put a peyote sleeve over it

My friend recently did this to mine at the roots... almost all of them. A few I undid the very next day but only the ones I could figure out where they had been fed thru.
