When I began my dreadlock journey early last June and was wondering how to dread my hair, and then I found this atrticle. At the time I didn't know anything about locking. I read everything, though, and went with my gut instinct. A week into dreading I stopped doing everything; Except washing with a Buck's County Soap Factory shampoo bar, bs/acv rinse and homemmade sea salt spray. My progress since has been more than I could have ever dreampt! Knots and loops started forming out of the masses of hair and I've been rockin them ever since. They're still babies (10 months on the first!) so my journey is still just beginning. I'm so grateful to have found this site and this community! I would not have been happy with moldey, dirty, rotting locks...

I attempted locking my hair almost two years ago, i had LONG hair, and let some girl "try" to start them for me because I thought you had to start them on your own....man wish I'da found this site! But they failed misserably I washed them out pretty much immediately. NOW I have short almost shoulder lenght hair. I did Backcombing, found your site, then did tnr in the back, just a few rows....but If I were to just use bs/asv on my hair and let it go....will short layers lock up on their own? i'm finding it hard to continue doing them myself...lol. :D it's kinda going against my entire, "don't try so hard" mentality I kinda have...but yeah. But my daughter is six and she totally wants her hair to dread up....she has one baby in there I put some string around and she ADORES IT....i think this summer i'll help her embark on that journey. au-natural of course. :D ( don't need her hair to have one biggun...i guess i can help it section out a little right?)
