African American people usually have highly cousre or nappy hair which is considered the preferable hair type to lock, but any race can have any hair texture and any hair type with the right methods will lock. I suggest you look up dread lock methods on youtube or google. I am not a expert, but I have been doing a lot of research. Hope this info helps
