It is just hair that seemingly looks like dreadlocks.

well that dependsif all the'dreading" is just rolling and rubbing hair into wax its basicly a sculpture but if u used just a lil and it still somehow managed to dread despite the wax it could be dreads..most tho i would say are sculted

i just like to refer to them as candles rather than dreads, sometimes it seems as though there is more wax build up than actual hair in some that ive seen?
wax sculptures of dreadlocks is all they are. Sometimes convincing, but often very easy to spot. A dreadlock is knots on top of more knots to form a column of knotted rope-like hair... if you add the wax before the dread is mature, then there is no way that the hair can knot up and 'mature' properly.
