First set I backcombed & waxed. NOT recommended.
Second set I backcombed (no wax or products) and then just let them do their own thing. They're at exactly two years now, and they've developed really well. I wish they were a little more textured -- I only have a few zigzags left and I wish there were more. But my hair just didn't want to do that. C'est la vie, I love them anyway!
How did you start and what was the most effect?

Yeah I was going to backcomb as well and just leave them alone and let them do their own thing. Knottysleeves said:
I think I did about everything there was to an extent, used wax for 4 months, but would never recommend it.backcombed, went to the beach alot (recommend that or the homemade equivalent)used alot of beads early on to see what fit where the best, lolthey still looked terrible for about 6-7ish months and alot of it wasn't even near locked up right except for a few here an there.oh also I backcombed, but I think any starter method would be fine, I've been liking T&R personally after I got the hang on that and did it for a few friends.

Ha I keep changing my mind on how I want to start them. So far not combing my hair has made it like crazy looking. I'm still thinking of backcombing/TNR but idk if I want to do that to my hair. I was going to just beads in my hair on Wednesday, because right now my hair is already getting stuck together.
haha np man, I know alot of people probably think that at first (I remember how weird/anxious i felt about starting an starting off right, just choose what you feel is right.any way you choose, the amount of time you give them is what counts the most. SE has alot of good post about doing it the natural way as well as what to expect, which can count toward all methods I think.

Yeah I just keep twisting certain areas though (bad habit). Trying to stop that. -.-
