Ripping Maintenance – How often is too often?

I was curious how often to perform the ripping maintenance on my dreads. My locs are just under 2 months old and I find that every time I wash and air dry, I end up with congos. Is ripping maintenance done once a week too often? I have very thick, curly Eastern European Jewish hair, so I wonder if this is normal for naturally tightly curled hair. I dont want to over-rip, but I dont want to have massive congos either. Thoughts?? (Photo was taken right after ripping session to show how fluffy and frizzy the locs are)

actualy weekly is about average

I would rip weekly or so in the beginning....every time I washed too
