ripping apart every time I wash

My dreads are about 2 months old, I have been washing with baking soda (but not acv because my hair is super soft and I didn't want them to unravel) I twist and ripped myself, and I guess I got a lot of crossed hairs in my sections because every time I wash the roots fuse together and I have to rip them apart...is this normal? Should I just keep doing it? Am I damaging them? Will they stop doing this as they mature? Thanks.

Mine are the same way and this started at about the end of my first month. I was separating every day, sometimes 2ce (and even on days I didn't shower.) Now I am only in my 4th month and I still have to separate fairly regularly, but definitely not as often (only when I shower now.)

Just keep doing it and eventually it will start to balance out a little bit more. If you stop, you will end up with thick congo dreads that you may not necessarily want down the road.
