I just started my dreads with no more than the twist and rip method and im going to just neglect it and let it do its thing from now on. But I was just wondering if I need to do anything as new hair grows in? I heard that I shouldseparatethem every once in a while but is that really it?

Yeah, that's really it. As new hair grows, they either join onto an already-existing dread, or they'll eventually dread on their own. That's what's happening with me, I have a few more dreads forming just from the new hair.

most of the loose hairs will get sucked into other locks. Some of them will form their own. If you want, you can put a bead over a lock and the loose hair to help force it into another lock. But it's not necessary. I kind of miss that messy phase
