And for my next trick next week I'll be trying aritha powder on my hair!! (Soapnut) I'll report back here when I have results. The aritha I have is kinda old so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get reliable results. I'll try, though.
I found this on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160694639209 It's a listing for the halved and de-seeded aritha nuts themselves. If it's good for dreaded hair then ... good deal, right? And if not then you can always use it for your laundry or bathwater. Great for sensitive skinned people. (Hint hint, SE!!)
Are there any other astringent type herbs anyone can think of which can be used in a hair tea? I know neem is good for the hair. Bitter as hell but defininately not moisturizing when you're using a tea made from the powdered herb. If you use the oil then yeah, it's going to be moisturizing. But the raw herb is bitter so it'll have a drying effect. I have some neem, too. Shit, I've got a five pound bag of the stuff. I'll do that two weeks from now.
So next week aritha and the week after that neem. I'm game. I'm willing to try stuff out to see if it softens or locks hair up well + can solve the great mystery of Hard Water.
PS. Anyone who followed my rant on salicylate-free soap products for dreads fyi: I can tolerate a certain amount of herbs, just not oils and extracts. That's the only reason why I'm willing to be a guinea pig with this stuff I already have laying around the house. So I'm not committing slow suicide via shampoo. Promise. I'm safe. I'm not a masochist.
