I've had my dreads for 4 months, use a tightening dread shampoo, occasional doses of Murray's beeswax and they have tightened up substantially. I use the clockwise rotation method for tightening up my roots, too.
Unfortunately as they continue to tighten up, more and more gaps are popping up. If I don't part my hair down the middle and do some very careful arrangements before putting it up, I have big glaring spots where my scalp shows through. What really bothers me is that I can't wear my dreads down. I try to pin them or lay them in certain areas to cover the gaps, but it doesn't really work.
Is there a way to tighten my roots more broadly across the entire sectioning of hair so that I don't end up with the dread pinched into a tiny area?
