Thanks so much for your concern Panterra! I did go to the ER, within five minutes of the incident. From there I was sent to a Hand specialist because the Doctor was worried about needing a graft, due to the size. I have seen the specialist and he said since it isn't deep (can see fatty tissue, but that is not damaged in any way) I won't need a graft, but it will take a LONG time to heal, several months, like you said. I am all caught up on tetnus (thanks Mom!), have been show how to properly clean and care for my finger, and I have a follow up appointment in two weeks.

I appreciate your concern, if I hadn't done those things I would want someone to remind me about them. My family is all out of state, but I'm really grateful for my partner's family who has been insisting I spend several nights with them, taken me to the doctor, and provided me with food when I have a hard time cooking for myself. It is so great to be reminded of the true goodness of others.

Thanks everyone else for the great suggestions. I have a container of Cranberry juice that I'm about to finish, I think I'll use that, rather than buying anything new. And it'll be easy to hold with a sing;e hand. (-:

Weird question...did you go to the doctor for that finger? My daughter cut her thumb in much that same fashion and everyone said that they couldn't stitch that so why bother going to the ER. Well I went anyway and they said that it needed a skin graft. Fingers and toes have alot of nerve endings and with a cut like that the nerves may be injured and it needs attention. Please don't think...there is nothing there to stitch cuz it was cut off and not go. You also most likely need a tetnus shot, not to mention that kind of cut is a high risk of infection. My daughter took about 4 mos. to fully heal even with the graft, but now it is fantastic and she has no problem. (Also, in case you are worried...a skin graft is quick and painfree compared to your wound...they use cadaver skin from a sterile package). Please take good care (((HUGS)))

Hahahaha, Oh SE...

That would suck though. Or rather, it would if I had a "boner site".

SE...they usually don't take a graft from your own body for something that small unless there is a special concern about rejection or something like that because then the person has two wounds. The doctor told me for something under a certain measurement (forgot what number it was!), they usually use the cadaver skin. At first, I was freaked out alittle too cuz I thought they were gonna go harvest this skin in another room and bring it in! But, he opened this package and it was a patch of skin in a sealed container with a solution on it and he said that it is kind of "freeze dried"...? Go figure, but it worked well! :)

well theres many tyopes of skin graphs usualy they take a very thin graph from your leg or ass perforated and use that alternatively theres several new artificial skin graphs that axct like skin while the real skin rebuilds beneath it then it falls off

i hadntheard of the cadaver one that kinda weirds me out lol tho i know its "harvested" imediatelty

in most cases if they dont use an artifuicial graph theyd use 1 taken from a donor site on your own body the bonor sites just a layer taken so your not left with no skin there

but yea shes right u need t o get that loked at by a dr and treatted

The older I get the more I apprciate how great moms are. I don't always see eye to eye with my own mother, but I know she still loves me. I'm always so glad when I hear there are others out there with moms who love them (having grown up with many foster siblings I know that isn't always the case).
