hello. i started my dreads about six months ago with all the stupid bad information that was out there. they got started with moulding gel and backcombing with interlocking as well. a month later i washed them and had them maintained with more moulding gel and interlocking. i then proceeded to wash the gel out because it was excessive and I went to another person to get them crocheted and interlocked with no gel. since then i began to notice that i was getting nowhere and that they were loose and fuzzy and alot of the ends were just free hair up until the middle part which felt like a dread. i went two months without going for maintenence then went with my original hair guy. he crocheted applied gel and interlocked them. about a week ago i again realized that at 6 months its hard to tell i have dreads because they are loose very fuzzy some of them are only half dreaded with the ends being loose hair. i started twist and ripping the loose ones and palm rolling and its made a significant difference. im just worried about the fuzziness and the interlocked part. do i need to do anything special or just continue to do my personal maintenece and let them go natural? will the roots even lock up on their own? how long until i see substantial results after going natural?

they are pretty damaged but dreading the crochet damage ws worse the putty ..  pretty much kept it from dreading so you'd keep going back

wash with a good dred shampoo. www.dreadlockshampoo.com is highly recommendd ..liquid till mature then bar

stop palm rolling and twist and ripping and just wash and separate  separating wontg be an issue for a bit cause of the interlocking

really washing is it.. just do that.. thats all  minimum of weekly mores better

all that frizz is mostly crochet damage

the gel on that sites safe to use if you need to tame but that s it  you don't need gel  you ned them to be ree of gunks  and force

master jedi it is time to realize you do not need the force  you are the force

by that I mean you don't need to force dreads  they grow through you .. inside and out

you say conquering my dreads

rainbow08wyoming103.JPG do not conquer, embrace, allow, nourish, accept, be at one with.

our dreads started with very diferent stories. but can take the same path to glory.

I started in the wilderness, at a rainbow gathering .. days of meditation, communing with nature. (camping with a rattlesnake)

I had dreads in the past..  and was absolutely devastated without them but I hadn't "started to dread" with any intent. I traded for some  of the most unique beads I ever saw at trade circle and wanted them in my hair.. that was it

only the back was long enough ..bout 6 inches barely the rest 4 or less but without trying or intending 6 or 8 dreads formed back there. (only 4 beads)

over the following months..i couldn't guess how long (never paid attention to time  think I only owned 2 or 3 watches in my lifetime and 1  the hands just spun so i'd shake  it and see where they landed)

anyway point is I did nothing special to dread  there was no conquering

I don't even remember the moment I realized it was dreading

when you just let it be and do nothing but wash ..at least weekly or more you don't know how many months between doing this or that ..or even how long it took to go from straight hair to dreads.

now,  you can do your own version of  what I did. maybe the woods or meditating (or wild dancing round the fire to the beat of 1000 drums)

but instead find your own way to let go of the need to control and conquer

find your own way to not just get dreads but be a dread.

believe it  or not from what they been through they look great I expected worse.

really make sure all that t gunks out

actualy  besides the liquid order any bar and special request it be replaced with "detox' its a charcoal based deep cleanse

if the putty gunk had any wax in it you might want wax b gone to be safe

thank you so much boss! I am taking your words to heart. planning on buying those products for sure. im really glad i found this site, ive wanted dreadlocks for a long time and i really want to do this right. even though ive just started going natural. i have to say that somehow i feel so much better about it. less stressed and worried. definitely saving money lol.

i think the reason theyre still relatively ok besides the ordeal i put them through is the fact ive only gone to the salon a couple or so times and have for the most part been neglecting them.

very true

people who backcomb vs people who go natural (as an example) have such opposite responces to everything they do

oh no loops am i doomed oh yay loops look how amazing

natural is relaxing  forcing them is always worrying about every lil hair or bump or loop

natural you get excited by them

why should i stop twist and ripping the ends though? i feel like its made improvements and has helped keep them shapely. is it damaging?

Staaahhhhp. Twist n rip should only be done ONCE. It's really not good for your hair. Leave them be and let them do their thing. Wash every couple or 3 days and separate them while wet. That's all, dude. Patience.😊
