Hello.. 
well theres no perfect number of dreads.. its basically personal choice. there are super thin dreads that can sum upto 100s.., and there are fat dreads (like 20s).. both have their individual beauty n its upto u what kinda look u like the most.
however if u have really fat dreads u'll have to take care of them slightly differntly.. they take much more time to dry when they are mature. it may take even days depending on their size increasing the chances of mold.. on the other hand if u have super thin dreads then u may have to spend more time separating them from combining with one another..
ideally sections around 1 inch are said to be easiest to maintain. but its nothing wrong if u have some fatter than those n some thinner.. only adds more variation and personality to ur dreads.. peace and good luck on ur journey
