t heres a tribe in southern yemen that dont cut their hair, and only wear a cloth around their waist and walk barefoot. The story is that a long time ago a religious man/elder had to walk a long distance across the desert barefoot and bare-chested to get home. And since then there are a group of this tribe (al humayry) that choose to continue with this lifestyle in the face of change. They rely on honey and herbs as medicine, and decorate themselves with weapons (even some children, but thats the way they chose to live). Interesting thing though! some of them seem to be forming natural dreads! This is a link to a short documentary on them, unfortunately in Arabic with no subtitles :S

Yemen was once the Sabean Kingdom which included parts of Southern Arabia, Somalia, Ethiopia and some Islands, it was the Queen of Sheba, mentioned in the Old Testament, that makes this period famous, the region became rich from spice trade,frankincense gold and so on and was a major and significant region throughout history.
