The ends of my dreads are very loose.I can palm roll them to tighten up, but by the time I shower the next day, it'll loosen up again. Can I take a scissors and cut the ends off? Do you think the core of my dreads are tight enough to do that?Otherwise, I know I can crochet them, but I'm always in the water, and I find that they tend to come out of the crochet.Any ideas folks?

rasta vanny you act like an expert going against the common knowledge suggesting everything others say to avfoid..and say so far no mold... arent your dsreads still under a year?.you are setting yourself up for many problems ansd acting like its all fine everyone should do what you didthe problems we are trying to help people avoid are still in your future.. the mold issues dont start for a couple years usualy..same with weakness from crochet.. since your so inexperienced why dont you try to learn before you try to teach..crochetting is not a good idea...forcing blunt tips is not either..if they blunt on theyre own fine if they dont...even better..

whatever you do I highly recommend NOT cutting off any hair whatsoever,Your locks are fairly old enough to be fine to cut, however unless you're doing it cause you want them to be shorter I don't think it'd help all that much, however from what I've noticed when you properly blunt the tip of a lock it doesn't come out so easily, even if there is alot of water involved (I assume you're at the beach or something alot?)the one I blunted could not physically possibly turn back into a wispy tip anytime soon unless I like took a knife to it or something.other than that I just now noticed your attached pictures, I think you should just let em be, the tips really don't look that bad to be honest, and I bet water does fly right off those things and I'm sure when some get longer some will also probably be blunt anyway if some haven't allready,I had dozens of tips like that, and I cut a few after i First started locking up, really wish I hadn't now.

90% of mine are still like that ..thank god!10% blunted on theyre own.. those ones hold water in the ends forever..when the rest of the dreads are just barely damp the blunted tips are so soaked u can squeeze water out of themwhen your hairs wet it soaks downwards lbeing drawn out the ends loose ends it drips out easily, but bluntred it pools in the tips which then take up to 3 times longer to drywhen theyre long that will mean days longer..if u surf daily your gonna get moldydont ever let anyone ,make you feel likje you need to fix your dreads or do anything to improve them..theryre perfect as isbesides shouldnt dreading be a step away from vanity instead of being a slave to it?

your dreads look fine as they are there is no need to blunt the ends as soaring eagle said it will cause them to retain water more and personally i think they look better that way

ive trimmed my dreads before. ive had mine for about 3 years or more. im bad with dates. the thing is that even though mine are really mature when i trimmed them the ends still lossened up and i still have sorta loose hairs at the end. they arent rounded at all. i mean if ur looking for rounded ends i dont think cutting the ends off is the soution cuz even in my dreads that are a few years old they still end up having loose hairs at the bottom. i did that awhile ago(bout a year and1/2 ago on approximatley 2yr old dreads) and heres them now:

so as u see it didnt have the rounding effect. but now that ive had them for awhile i realize that it just adds character. and as ppl say about longer to dry . my hair takes like 2 days to fully dry and if that taking them longer to dry thing is true then im glad they arent rounded especially in the winter cuz itd prolly would have taked me like 3 or 4 days to dry completly.
