Hello! Just found and joined a few minutes ago. I have been locking up for 4 1/2 years now (2nd set), started with backcombing. Not much into maintenance as it doesn't do a damn thing for my hair and I am a bit to lazy and way too busy with 4 kids. Also way against wax and yuck in my hairs, but to each his own. If it works for you, who am I to say what someone else does with their hair.

My 17 year old son has also been locking for about a year now. We started his through twist and rip. They are eFFn awesome.

So that is the oldest of my brood. My 12 year old tried to go the neglect method but he wasn't into ripping them apart and I just did not think he was ready to deal with how nasty people can be when they see hair in that state. So I told him to wait awhile longer.

I have been a member of KL, Get Up Dread Up (livejournal) and hip forums for years. I am more of a lurker and occasional commenter because I am very shy and have social anxiety. So that is me in a nut shell. A few pics shall we?

I think they were about 1 1/2 here.

My version of dreaded liberty rolls. Recent webcam shot. Looks like I have a little ram horn curl going on with the bleached one, heh.

I hope to be able to post more here than I have places in the past. But between being busy with work n kids and just being plain shy, it will be a challenge.

Happy Dreading!

Welcome. Your locks are amazing. Whatever you're not doing to get them like that, keep it up.

We try to be very friendly and open minded here. All we care about is healthy locks. So please don't be afraid to pop your head in and give your 2 cents. You must have some opinion about what works and what doesn't.

I don't mean to pry, but I have to say that I believe that one of the best ways to reach inner peace is to push yourself past your comfort zone once in a while. I know you have a family to take care of, but don't let being shy keep you away

Thank you so much, you are absolutely right! I have had to push myself many times in this manner and am usually glad that I did.

You have a really cool look about you. Just curious, you say you are shy but the way youlook I'm sure draws attention wherever you go. Just interested in that strange combination.

I can fully understand it. I was unbearably shy in high school. And yet I was the only kid in my school who wore all black, chains and straps, black nail polish and eyeliner, black leather trench coat, and had a multi coloured mohawk.

I don't know about you, Carrion, but for me it was about finding some outlet to express how I felt inside. It wasn't about getting a rise out of people, or having them notice me.
