Short hair dreading

Hey all! I just have a quick question. My hair has grown to about 7-9 inches all over.. I started journey at about 3-4 inches. I have tons of baby dreads, even at the back now, however, they all start by forming thin sticks of a few hairs and gather more bit by bit. Most of them look a bit like ric-rac--that zig-zag trim. none do what everyone else's seem to--make really cool loops and knots. It this typical when starting shorter hair? I really love my hair can't wait for more length'] Just want some feedback from you all...Thanks! Nancy

Lol I have a dread like that on my left side. It formed naturally from the loose hairs there.

hm... could have something to do with the amount of oil in your hair? since your hair is shorter the natural oil from your scalp has an easier time saturating the hair. perhaps if you washed it more often with something that dries it out a bit, that might help. neutrogena anti-residue shampoo makes my hair super nappy =)
