it feels like my dreads are shrinking any idea from what?

need a good opinion
dreads shrink the 1st 8 months about as they tighten up
think about it the straight jair hads to dread to dread it cant stay straight
take a straight hair and crumple it up into a ball its no longer long this is what happen inside a dread the hairs crumple up and shrink into a tight mass
