What was your driving force?

What was it that put the thought in your head that dreads were the way to go?Or, what caused you to decide to give them up?I'd wanted dreads for years, sense I was a young teen. I can't really say what it was that inspired me most to desire them so badly. But 2 of my brothers have been dreaded up aswell. The younger of the two has sense passed away from cancer. Before he started his chemo therapy he and I cut his dreads off, so he wouldn't have to go thru loosing them slowly. Then the plan was to reattach them after he was well.Unfortunately that never happened. So I took his dreads and attached them to the ends of mine. It nearly doubled their length. Tho that's not why I did it. I'll always have that piece of him with me, so long as I have my dreads. That's my driving force before my babies.

Nah it was just their soap bar...I've never gone in for any of the other "dreadlock products" these companies try and sell, have only really tried the shampoos...but yeah, the soap...three washes only, and it was horrible! :O Complete disaster!

I'm on round two of dreads. the first set lasted me 6 mo. and didn't really know much about em. I've wanted them since I had my first encounter with a dread head. he was so free spirited and I really liked his attitude on life. so I waited a couple years graduated high school and then I felt as tho I needed to get the lock for myself. I live in a very small town and the looks I get are almost always in discust but I love my hair. I think i did it to be different in this small town. I also attend music festivals and that was a big inspiration. I'm keepin these for years!

90% of dreads that start over that fast are due to wax (the statistic is made up, but close to accurate)..just an educated guess by what i witnessed Adam Ligster said:

This is only my first set of dreadlocks. I felt that this year was the perfect time in my life to try to find a balance and try to find out who I really am. I was living in a major city, in a nice house, drove a nice car, worked for local governement, but I felt as though part of me was missing. I longed to move to the country, live in a run down farmhouse and just live a more relaxed, less-stressful lifestyle. So, after having daughter number 3 in November last year, I decided to leave work, and stay at home with my children as I dont want to miss out on their childhood any longer. So, my dreads were my New Years Resolution and it might sound strange, but I have become more couragious, my self esteem has sky-rocketed and I feel more at peace with myself. Also, 3 months ago, we packed the 3 kids in the back seat of the ute, threw the dogs in the back canopy, nursed the cat on my lap and hooked up the trailer and moved 27 hours away to a small country town. I now live in the country, in a run down farmhouse and plan to make a vegie garden out the back. We no longer have the stress of keeping up with the Jones' and I believe I owe it all to my dreads. sounds kooky i know
