UNFORTUNATELY, I had no one who could section my hair for me. So i just started taking pieces and backcombing them. The front looks okay, but there is a huge gap in the back of my head and it's pissing me off. Now no one told me NOT to crochet my dreads, so i got really crochet happy and have been doing it everyday for like a week. It will be impossible to pull them apart to create more dreads to fill this gap. idk. i'm paranoid that they will grow to look stupid. I wish i could have sectioned them.Ignore my beat up face in the picture. Gotta love bar fights. :-\

I actually had the same thing in the back for a while. I thought it would never fill in, but after several months of shrinking and fattening, it actually just filled in on it's own.Just leave it be. It'll take a while but it will fill in, especially if you let it go enough to get a bunch of loose hairs in there. Then the loose guys will fill in the gaps naturally as they get sucked into other dreads.

it was probably less noticable before you crotched with a little more natural root grow out to cover it up. just give it a little while.

i had the same when i started. i think it will be a little bit noticible when you're planning on maintain them. but when you're getting some loose hairs and bumps and everything it wouldn't be noticible. when i began the journey people commented me on the bald spots. but after 4 years you can't see it anymore. good luck with your journey anyways!

Thanks guys! Well it hurt like hell but I managed to "uncrochet" a dread and rip it apart. it fills it in perfectly. I'm so pissed I crocheted them! I had no idea. I went on knotty boy and youtube and found "crochet to be the best method" and now what WOULD be really fat dreads are now skinny. :-\But alas, no bald spot!

Andrew's idea is a good one, congo the dreads around, and new dreads grow along with old ones anyway, so it should go away. I'd advise not to go near the hook or comb again, if your impatient i'd put twist and rip over backcombing anyday.
