Why does the front look like this... ...while the back has all this awesome coolness going on?

I'm pretty sure it's a combination of how we sleep, the oil on our face and the amount of hair we have in the front. When we sleep our hair gets more compressed at the back of our heads which helps with locking. Our faces have our natural oils which unfortunately conditions the hair and leads to untangling. We tend to have less amount of hair around our face rather than at the back. The little dreadlings at the back of your neck have this protective barrier of other hair while the front doesn't. Hehe, it's like they have an encouraging little support group. Also, in my case I'm pretty sure I play with the front of my hair in my sleep and subconsciously when I'm awake. Time for more tam time!

Exactly what MzElaineous said plus, hair around the face is definitely of a slightly different texture than the rest of the hair on your head ( I have done hair 30 years!). Usually, hair in the front is finer, softer and silkier and more delicate. Another thing is that because it is near our face and in our vision and grasp we manipulate it more and yes, it gets oilier (from our natural oils...but also from face creams and cosmetics we apply). I have noticed on a number of my clients that smoke there is a very marked difference in the behavior of hair towards the front due to the smoke that circulates around their face and leaves a deposit. Sooooo unfair, huh? Lol

Thanks for all the responses. It makes sense. I guess the cure is more patience, eh?Do you think wearing a sleeve or bandana more often to keep the hair out of my face and hands would help? I have a tam, but it's not wool and I'm afraid it would be counterproductive...

Mine did the exact oposite! The front has always been strong and perrrfect, while the back is finaly starting to dread after 4 monts (well, 'finaly'... It's not really been that long, so I'm just really happy with it!). Then again, I sleep on my sides, never on my back, so...

UPDATEI've been wearing the bandana for a couple days and it's making a huge difference. I even slept in one last night.
