I just found this site and it's really fantastic. I thought earlier today, 'hey, I should dread my hair so I don't have to spend so much time washing it and thinking about it, it can just be there in it's dreaded beauty.'...I thought 'That way, I can travel around and not worry about it at all, I can go anywhere with dreaded hair!'well anyway, I have thin white girl hair, kind of wavy..nothing special...I read dreaducation 101, now I'm wondering if this is really the route I should go, and I would love any tips or any conversation from you members because you all look so damn interestingLexi

With your hair length be cautious of the term "neglect".If you throw out your comb at this hair length and stop using conditioners after shampooing and seriously "neglect" your hair within months the loops and bumps you acquire may be very shocking to you,(most all youtubers that went neglect at your length have cut their hair). My advice would be to keep sections at about a pencil width. That way it is not so noticeable and you can still ponytail your hair back if needed on the "bad hair days".You can let them combine down the road.My other suggestion would be to cut your "thin white girl hair" as you say a few inches so the loops are not so extreme and you will gain experience along the way.

I agree, loops are a sign that your hair is dreading, and therefore a good thing. It's actual proof that your hair is doing something. soaringeagle said:

I say braid ur hair up n with each of the three strands used to braid, have them the size u want each dread.. Then take em out in like two weeks n lightly back comb each one n then just go natural from there.. Twist n rips good too tho. I've got one that I twist n ripped n it's stayed quite well. Smaller the better for t&r tho in my opinion. But whatever u wnt should work. Just weigh ur options n I'm sure ull come to a good conclusion. Good luck

Not sure about that advice scordatura?? I started my neglect/natural dreads from hair to my bum. There's no reason to cut first. Dreads started from long hair certainly do NOT lead to premature cutting!! Actually I know many real people (not on youtube lol!) that have amazingly beautifully textured dreads that started from long hair. Her hair isn't even long! lol! Please be careful not to give advice to new folks that does more to confuse than help. If you don't have personal experience with something in particular maybe it's better to say nothing.

cutting only delays growing and they wont grow for a year only shrink so cutting will only mean shorter dreads thats all

I'm still utterly confused by you!? why is it a BAD thing for hair to dread quickly and why would you "monitor" it to slow it down????? scordatura said:
Maybe she does not have friends that started dreading with long hair with success that are not on youtube, laughing out loud. All i know is I knew many a metalhead in the early 90's with long hair that wanted to dread and had no clue what was in store without any guidance (myself included).Again,as I said ,she is in a good place now.Long hair ,lets say past ones shoulders, can dread very quickly if not monitored.
