Hello All,I just wanted to briefly say hello as I'm new to the site and 5 months into my journey. I've been natural for about 5 years and have wanted locs for almost 9 years and finally just did what I've been longing to do! I guess I'm kind of a free-former that is until I go and get pampered and freshened up which at that time my loc technician palm rolls my babies. I don't think that no 2 journey's are going to be the same and feel it's different strokes for different folks; so, as long as your locs are healthy and you're happy then I say "pop, loc and drop it!" I look forward to chatting with you all and am pleased to share my journey with you! Peace and Blessings!

I know right! I actually just like saying loc technician, makes it sound more official than stylist . I appreciate it Maxe said:
Hello there =)
I agree! Go with what's right for you and don't care what anyone else says (altho the term 'loc technician' kinda makes me giggle the same way the term 'life coach' does :P)
Locks looking great!

I'm not sure what you're referring too "technical dreading" (?) "haha what a funny concept" (?) "looks like they do more then palm toll" (?). soaringeagle said:

Again, not sure what you mean by technical dreading and what exactly you're referring to when you say it looks like they do more than palm roll. If you're referring to my last 2 photos, no one had done anything to my locs other than me which was basically playing around with styling. Here's the thing, being natural for me has been a up hill battle and having to deal with judgements from everyday society; I really didn't think that I would continue to be judged on a site that from an outside glance seems to promote individuality and the journey of dreading. Please let me know if I was mistaken in my observation and I will seek out a community/support environment that fosters that. MrsRussell said:

No worries you will get support but expect people to give you their opinions on methods its not judgment IMO just advice that is passionate and based on not wanting someone go through unnecessary troubles and spend their money on something they might not need. BTW welcome to the site I like it here I have been on a lot ( not necessarily dread related) of forums who promoted "acceptance" and "tolerance" but as soon as I would talk about something that was to "different" I would get very nasty comments by a lot of people so far this is the most accepting and diversified site I have found. Thank you J, means a lot because I was really beginning to second guess my decision to join. I definitely appreciate comments and even other views of doing something, just not being mocked because I'm choosing to embark on my journey my way. I'm level headed enough to agree to disagree when points of views are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Thanks for the kind words :0) Jdwood said:

Hi welcome to the site! I think what SE was referring to maybe was the sections of hair?? It doesn't look natural to me looks like someone created the sections really neatly is all. Don't be offended it was just a question. I think your locks look great and if you're happy with them that's all that really matters! Many Blessings

Thanks NaturalWomyn, yep, when I get my locs touched up, they separate or combine depending on what's necessary and palm roll. My locs were started by comb coils which were parted neatly. I'm not sure how my own scalp and hair doesn't look natural or how neatness equates un-natural. As I'm sure everyone knows that different hair types call for different things but there is nothing un-natural about my locs (My own hair, no dye...). I've gotten the feeling that a general consensus on this site is that unless you're using the neglect method then you're not completely "natural." Like I said in my original intro, different strokes for different folks. It's hard not to get offended when comments are phrased as matter of fact statements versus inquires but if the site is as welcoming as you all say, then I will hang around for a bit to see if the vibe changes. I would like to say that for those who have offered kind words, I do appreciate it .

Ok i think the problem here is that the dreadlock terminology can be a little confusing as it can differ greatly from one person/circle to the next. What we mean by natural is the neglect method. No pre-sectioning, no combs(via backcombing) or twist and rip and not using a loctician. Natural is just separating the dreads and washing. I am in no way trying to demean your journey I'm just trying to clarify the term. Natural dreads typically look more organic due to them being allowed to form where they want with no help other than ripping apart the sections. I think your locks look amazing and they suit you beautifully! just try not to get offended too easily, take what you like and leave the rest behind and i promise you'll like it here! Many Blessings MrsRussell said:
