Are there any ways to make thin white boy dreads look 'thicker' ?

Hello I am in the process of getting dreads using the backcombing method (I know I know) and am about half way done. I have the ultimate thin white boy hair that is super thin and super straight. It's about 6 inches long. So far the dreads are looking really good, better than I thought except they are super thin. I have around 40 dreads total but they are suuuuper thin and I fear having big bald spots on my head. My question is are there any way to make the dreads thicken up or look thicker? I know when I wash my hair with soap it looks a lot thicker. Would this be a good idea? I washed my hair with regular shampoo before dreading which I read might have been a bad idea. Any products or any tips you guys have I'd love to hear. Thanks!

My fav word! Cong is when 2 or more dreads combine together, Makin a congo, it doesnt look any different from a reg dread, just got thicker. I only know bout natural dreads, but im sure backcombs will congo same rate as naturals, less you use wax Dane McMillen said:
