Trouble with the roots of super fine baby dreads

Hi everyone! Tonight my little dreads are officially four days old! I started them with Twist and Rip. I love how the main part of my dreads turned out, but I'm having some trouble with the roots.First off, you have to understand, I have really, really fine hair. Like, take what you think of fine hair and go 10x finer. I've felt baby hair that was thicker than mine. It is also very oily, and it is also very healthy. Combine those three and you've got incredibly slippery hair. My hair is also very dedicated to staying the exact way it comes out of my head, which is stick straight and blonde. Seriously. Years ago, I got two perms in two weeks and the curl still slid right out. I tried getting my hair streaked fire engine red and it was the color of rust right from the start.Anyway, when I put the dreads in, I followed what I read here and did not dread it right to the scalp. But now, I've got a 1 1/2 to 2 inches of straight root on each dread. I've been washing my hair daily because otherwise the roots would be greasy enough to oil a rusty hinge. I bought some wool yarn and made a little square of wool to rub at the roots some as well. I haven't sat and dedicated time to messing with the roots, but a couple times and day I'll bend over so the hair hangs and rub it for a minute of so. Any other suggestions of how to help super fine roots knot up? I know there will always be some straight root, but the amount I have now just seems ridiculous. Here are some pictures I took of them.

It will dread :)I have similar issues...thin oily hair. All I've done for 2 months is sleep on a wool sweater and my roots have gone from looking just like yours to being locked all the way to about an inch from the scalp ... I used the sea salt spray regularly for the first month too and I think that it did help a lot :D

hey paula, if you would be so kind as to give me some advice on the salt water. what measurments should I use, and when I apply it how long can it stay on? can I put it on at like 8 o'clock PM and wash my hair the next day at 11 AM, or is that too long? Paula said:

When you say "don't wash every day", is that just for TnR or for people starting out or what? I wash every day out of necessity... soaringeagle said:

sea salt spray should be about a tablespoon per spray bottle the size of a regular water bottle. I havent used it in a while but when I did, I would spray right after I wash. Then let it dry and it wouldn't be removed till my next wash(1-2 days). Though for some prefer to spray it on 1-2 hours before washing the dreads. And you want to try to spray only on the dreads and avoid the scalp as much as possible or it can get too dry and itchy, or get irritated by the salt.Matt-Why do you have to wash every day? I play football (soccer if you're American) up to 5 nights a week, and the other nights I run, swim or lift. I'll spare you the details, but I sweat a LOT, especially when I play soccer, necessitating daily bathing Paula said:

Sweat is mostly salty water, which is actually very good for dreads...so it would hurt to simply rinse with water after your practices. Though you can wash daily, it will make your scalp overactive and produce extra oils which make the hair slick and harder to knot. Matt Critean said:

My hair is about as fine and straight as yours. Heed the advice you are being given now.The salt water spray, mentioned will help your hair become more prone to knotting and matting.
