Separating when and how often

So i was wondering its been about two months and a half months of me not combing. My hair is 4 inches long if pulled. I am mixed black white and native american my hair is the afro type but really soft. I was just wondering when should you really start sparating and how often should i be doing it. Some of my hairs are starting to come together have a lot of little tendrils sticking up on my head.

sectioning? not at all separating when 2 sections try to join together or 1 forms too big

and..as often as needed

typicaly weekly but for some daily
