Hey guys, so I've been dreadlocked for nearly three years now, and was just wondering something.

Basically I've just washed my hair, and when I emptied the bath there was quite a few short hairs, a few centimeters long, left in the bath from my dreads. I've only just started to worry about this and was wondering if there was a problem.

I of course know it's completely natural for hairs to fall out daily, but I also recently took out a merino wool wrap from one of my dreads, and when I looked on the table I was sat at whilst I was removing it, there was so many tiny little hairs that had fell out. This has happened a few times and it makes me worry that somethings wrong

Also, I've been wanting to try a new shampoo, one that's more 'natural'. I prefer shampoo's in liquid form so any recommendations would be a great help too :)

What maintenance do you do? If crochet, then that would be the broken hairs. Otherwise, I don't know. Some one else might have another idea.

dreadlockshampoo.com is the only liquid shampoo I have used, and I recommend 100%.

peace.

Every time I take a wrap out, some hairs come with it. I have fatter locks, so I need to wring them out a bit before I get out of the shower. Some small hairs are always left on my hands. It's completely normal.

Since locks never fully stop changing shape and size, there will always be hairs that get pushed a pulled closed to the surface of your locks. These are normally the hairs that fall out easier. But when you remove a wrap, you do tend to snap a hair here and there. So long as your locks don't start to unravel and fall apart in pieces, your fine

I do no maintenance whatsoever and I've never done any, except seperating my dreads, although a lot of the time I leave sepearing them too long so when I do get round to do it the roots are pretty knotted together so I do have to do some 'ripping and tugging' at them a bit

Thank you, my dreads have never started to unravel or anything. My hair is completely healthy, it's mega soft and shiny, as my fringe is undreaded, but I took out one dread a few weeks ago as it was extremely knotted up with another dread was becoming uncomfortable, and there were no residue in the dreads, the hair is completely healthy and is as soft and shiny as my fringe is, so I know it's not the condition my hair is in, it's probably like you said, about hairs being pushed etc :)

That may also be your short hairs at the roots, the ones that are fairly new. Since dreads do not lock up all the way to the scalp, those hairs are not locked into place yet. Since we shed hairs everyday, noticeable with undreaded hair. those short ones have just not latched onto the dread yet, so as you shed them, you see them. Longer strands that we shed stay in the dread and get swallowed up....If you scalp and dreads are healthy, and you feel healthy, I would not worry....peace

I agree with all of these guys! ^^ And Vicki's soap from dreadlocksshampoo.com is the way to go! All of her bars and liquid soap work wonders, even in hard water. :)
