Welcome. The BS wash is great, but if you don't have naturally oily hair, it raises your scalp and hairs pH level too high. This fries your hair, making it brittle and overly dry. It also causes your scalp to become itchy and flaky over time.

In order to stop this, get some Apple Cider Vinegar. mix about 1 tsp:5 cups of water. Pour it on, and rinse it off right away. It doesn't make your hair smell bad at all. But if you're worried, you can mix in some oils.

The DHHQ soaps are actually really bad for locks, and for your health. they contain many ingredients that are 100% known to cause caner in different organs, just from skin exposure. In fact, that shampoo was never designed for dreadlocks, in the first place. It's a hunting shampoo, and was only designed to be used a handful of times a year

Hi Shauan, welcome to the community. Glad you found the best site on the web to get all your healthy and true dread information to get you off to a good start. So you plan to do T&R. I did also. The best thing to do is to let your hair naturally separate into sections first, then use those for your T&R. Just by washing and not brushing, your hair will do this within two weeks time, so you can do all your research while you are waiting. I have great tips for twist & rip: (Dead URL) http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect/a>

Post any question you have, we are all here to help each other...peace
