Welcome to the community Dominic. You have nice long hair to start, you will grow awesome natural dreads
Do expect shrinkage, the longer the hair, the more the shrinkage. You adore your long hair, so you can help with the appearance of the shrinkage by you hair growing faster at the same time. There is a supplement called Biotin which promotes hair growth. Take 6000mcg daily and in 3 months the hair starts growing quicker. This is a pill form that is found in the vitamin section, maybe where you work, or else in Drug Stores and Target stores. If you cant find the 6000mcg strength, but say only find 1000mcg, then take 6 pills a day to equal it....This is a safe supplement to take. So now as you hair shrinks, it will also be growing.....Here is a map of your area. Many dread shampoos and bars do not work properly in hard water, including Dr. Bronners, they slowly leave behind a residue build up. But if you have soft water, you can use any kind, they don't react funky then. A member on this site is a creator of www.dreadlockshampoo . the best there is..works in hard or soft water and never leaves residue build up.....enjoy your new journey....peace
