Welcome. So you've heard the wax thing. It's all true. Wax is a hydrocarbon. And as such, it essentially glues your hair together, which completely prevents locking from ever occurring. That's the best case scenario. It holds down loops, tangles and knots. Without those, your locks never progress past the day you first applied wax.

The worst case scenario, and a very common one, is that wax will cause mold. This isn't a possibility. It's an inevitability. Because wax is a hydrocarbon, it waterproofs your hair. Which chokes off air and water that your hair needs to be healthy. But some water does sneak in. Either when you shower, get stuck in the rain, or snow, or just from humidity. This water gets trapped inside your locks, where it accumulates and becomes stagnant. Mold and mildew are now able to take hold and grow out of control. Sooner than later your hair will begin to rot and decay while being glued to your head. Trust me from experience, this is a nasty situation to be in.

And again, because wax is a hydrocarbon, it will NEVER wash out in normal soap and water, no matter how hot the water is. Hydrocarbons need a detergent to clean it out. This process can take weeks-months of scrubbing 2-3 times a week. Depending on how many times you waxed. Just 1 session will take about a full month of scrubbing to clean.

Welcome. It's good that you stopped interlocking. There're only a few things worse for locks than that.

While neither of them is retwisting or palm rolling, both of those techniques will only do severe damage to your locks, and scalp. In fact, both of them, even done separately, will cause premature baldness if done enough times.

Palm rolling only once in a while does nothing to create lasting knots. But if you do do it enough to see progress, it actually does so much damage, that your locks become thinner and thinner at the roots. This can get so bad that they can be nearly impossible to fix. I palm rolled daily for the first 2 weeks, and 7 years later I am still trying to fix the damage
