I tried them all, Knotty Boys, Dr. Bronner's & can say emphatically from personal experience that Vicky's are hands down the safest & best for dreadlocks. You surf as well so you know first hand how the salty sea really frizzes up & knots up the hair. In my humble opinion regular salt water soaks in the ocean are probably the best thing you can possibly do for maturing dreads.Be patient, and good luck on your Jouney. Keep us posted on your progress it really helps when you can see for yourself the progress month to month when you get frustrated during the first year.
