Well thanx for letting me join! It's nice to be apart of a community that understands what people go thru. That's why I had lost my other sets of locks. I had originally 4 dreads I had put in my junior year of high school. Loved those to death! That was my testing point. I had those for in the back for two years. After I graduated I went for the full head. Had those for about maybe a year but the person I had put them in didn't do a good job on placement and also family had gotten to me and I ended up cutting them out. My hair was so short! Like chin length. And I couldn't bring myself to cut my three year old babies out. I cried and cried. But I couldn't have really short hair with four long dreads. Now that was 8 years ago so I cut those out. That whole thing was to please my mom. Who was in tears when I walked out of the bathroom. "Aww. I have my beautiful baby back" she said. Didn't care how I felt. But my next set in almost a year later. Haha. Had those for about a year and a half. Loved everything about them. Everything. Then one day for now reason I found myself half way tray my head of cutting them out! What a horror story! I didn't even know what I was doing! This medication I was on really messed with my head and cause me to have a breakdown. Eww to chemical medications. Not good at all. So now it's been 5 years since that horrible horrible day. I know have a lovely set going again. My forever set. Nobody can tell me any different. My mom is even more on board with me. She even stuck up for me when talking to a person we know. Nice to see she finally accepted me to be me :). As for shampoo I am using. I have some leftover deadhead hq shampoo and I also have bought the tea tree bar soap from dr bronners. I am really fascinated at how well they are really locking up this time. It's almost like my hair just knows what to do. I gave them a little direction and off they go!:) <3

Welcome. Why did you get rid of the other sets? If you don't mind my asking.

What soap are you washing with? Just because it's all natural doesn't always make it good for locks. Many are too conditioning and will slow down the process and may even leave residue

I didn't read your profile till now. Like SE and Baba said...you don't need to maintain your roots! Especially as often as every two weeks?! Are you also crocheting? That's another no no because essentially crocheting is just breaking the hairs that make up your dread and over time there won't be any complete hairs holding them all together in "ropes" on your head!

welcome but maintenance every 2 weeks?

your going to go bald..you are already! tightening the roots that tifhght xauses traction alopecia and balding the roots thin the y weaken and break the hair around each drad refuses to grow back

hair grows slowly 1/2 inch a month you never ever ever need to maqintain the roots..period but any more often then every 3 months is insaqne

every 2 weeks? what are u maintaining? your only causing more and more harm and yiur scalps screaming for relief

leave them alone! stop maintaining your only causing harm

watch this

Welcome. Be careful with mango and lime products. Some contain wax in their ingredients which will only prevent locks and can cause mold and mildew. Wax does not wash out in normal soap and water, too. So check the ingredients on they stuff you're using.

Also, palm rolling only does 1 of 2 things. If you do it only once in a while, and gently, it won't create an lasting knots. So it's pretty pointless. If you do it hard enough and often enough to see progress, you are destroying your locks. Check this video out to see what only 2 weeks of palm rolling can do to your locks.
