Welcome. don't put rubber bands in your hair. Bands squeeze your locks too tight and form weak spots in your locks that can actually snap off after a while. They can also get sucked into your locks where they get lost and then dry rot.

The Irish have been known to have locks. Ancient Egyptians, Hindus, Buddhists. Locks have ranged from one end of the world to the other, spanning continents.
Is it written directly into their dress code "No dreadlocks"? If not, then they really can't force anything.
Most school dress codes just say "no distracting hairstyles". Dreadlocks aren't distracting. In fact, if you tell them that they are spiritual and give them evidence that people in the bible wore dreadlocks ie. Sampson, they may reconsider their stance.
Look into the spirituality forums and find some posts about different groups that rocked locks in biblical times
