Welcome. Your 3 year old is a future law student? Wow, how can you tell? lol

All you really need is a non residue shampoo, time, and patience. Locks form naturally. They don't need anyinterference. There are methods to give them a jump start, but it doesn't speed anything up. Check out the dreaducation page

what they do at salons is almost guaranteed to be a disaster so we need to know what was done what products were used and what they suggested for after care and maintenance

Welcome.

What exactly was do at the salon? Salons are notorious for destroying locks. It's not 100% their fault. Beauty schools don't teach about how to grow healthy locks. So salons use a variety of damaging methods and products.

Did they use wax, gels, or other creams? Hopefully they didn't crochet your hair. If they twisted it, never get it retwisted, if you want to keep your locks for life. Retwsting puts to much torque on your scalp and roots, this thins out your roots and causes traction alopecia, a condition tat leads directly to baldness over time
