Thanks everyone for the welcome. I live in central Missouri and the water here is very hard, which has presented problems with my hair. I try to collect rainwater to use when it is warm enough outside. I took out my twist & rips tonight because I want to give my hair a chance to go natural method. Will see what happens. I am in college right now waiting for nursing school, so I have to maintain somewhat. Dreading is my birthday present to myself.
Welcome to the community Cathay and to the beginning of your wonderful journey to dreadlocks. I see you started by twist & rip, here are some tips for you on that method: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect
Water type plays a huge roll in what we wash our dreads with, so here is a map of the states, I am not sure where you live, so if somewhere else let me know and I will get a water map for you.....enjoy all the great changes in the next few months and enjoy the site....peace

Welcome. Just interlocked once, I hope. Because even once will cause them a great deal of damage and weakening. But it won't completely destroy them. If you do it over and over, it will damage them to the point beyond repair.
