Welcome. All you need to start is to wash with a non residue shampoo. 2-3 times a week. Then separate as needed

Yeah, it won't start to dread until 6 inches in straight hair, usually. Dr Bronners is a shampoo I've heard good things about, but it can't be used in hard water areas. This site has shampoo and locking gel that many recommend. http://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com/

You can wash your hair. You need residue free soap, or you can use the baking soda/ ACV wash. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/bs-acv-wash-1

Other than that, don't brush your hair and dreads will grow. It will take some time, so learn to be patient and post some photos so we can see your progress and you can look back at the stages you went through.
