Wax stick and glues hair down, which prevents loops from forming. Loops are what cause knots. If no loops, no knots. If no knots, no locks.
Wax is also a hydrocarbon, and will NEVER wash not in normal soap an water. It needs a detergent and a good amount of time to scrub it out.
