Will my dreads stillprogressively get thinner even after I stopped maintenance? I am worried that they will never look great and still be all messed up.
If you have done alot of palm rolling, that would explain the thin roots too. You have to stop everything. Your dreads are really fat at the ends, and they progressively get thinner, that is due to your maintenance.
good luck
peace and bleesings
EEK, don't root rub, even gently, that is part of the problem when people have root problems. I weakens the root system if you do that to the roots, so NO, don't root rub as suggested in the other post.
Roots are meant to be loose so that the hair can finish its journey. When they are completely mature, then may only have 1 inch of loose roots, but it can still be more. Tight roots=scalp & root strain=loss of hair, thinning of roots.
I know that you stopped using the hook, but your profile says you were doing it every month for maintenance. This caused so much damage to your locs, they now have thousands of broken hairs inside each and every one. So you will have flatness, thin spots etc because of those broken hairs. The best thing for you to do is just keep them clean, separate them if needed and that is all. You must let them heal and repair. One time of the hook takes 6 months of recovery, you will have a road ahead of you but be patient and let them be.....Peace
Leave em be, just need to separate them once in a while, should round off eventually. The other issue you could try root rubbing, just be gentle, works best when dry straight after washing
