Welcome to the community Brent. Sounds like the guys have given you good advice to help your dreads along and to be healthy. Post a pic soon of your year old dreads, we would all love to see them...peace

Welcome. It's good that beeswax isn't strong enough. It's terrible for locks. In fact, it will only help prevent your locks from ever maturing. I know it's very popular when you search google for "how to grow locks". But what those sites don't tell you, or just don't know is that wax is a hydrocarbon. It essentially glues your hair down and holds down knots, tangles and bumps. Without those, you never get locks.

And because of wax's hydrocarbon qualities, it is making your locks waterproof, which will inevitably kill your locks and cause them to rot off. By waterproofing your hair, you prevent it from ever getting clean. Even when you shower, water just wicks off your hair and doesn't get it wet. But some water does get through. This water, either from showering, rain, or snow, gets stuck in your locks and can't get out. It stagnates there and allows mold and mildew to take hold, rotting your hair from the inside out
