Crocheting does a lot of damage, like Eagle was saying.
It rips hairs into smaller and smaller pieces. This weakens your locks. If you only did it to start, then it's not terrible. Once won't destroy your locks, but it does delay the locking process by about 6 months. If you keep it up as maintenance, it will destroy them, though.

throw the hook away so your never tempted to abuse your dreads again
