Day 19

By Marlee Batchelder, 2012-08-29

So my 3 dreads that i backcombed have started to un-knot a little and I'm ok with that. I'm just going to let them naturally dread and go at their own pace.

I'm still thinking about doing the rest of my head. I'm a little scared though. I will convince myself that I want to then have even the slightest shade of doubt and wonder how valid those doubts are. I keep telling myself that I can always start dreading later on but ifI start before I'm sure than there's not really any taking that back. But when I'm thinking I do want to do it, I REALLY want to do it. I wonder why I haven't started already. I think that dreads are beautiful but I also think that my hair is beautiful the way it is now. Any advice? (besides "just do it" haha)

Strait and arrow

By exportLOVE, 2012-08-28

So I am starting my first ever set of dreads :) So far I am LOVING IT. I had a few twist and rips at the nape of my neck but took them out because I wanted it to be an even steven playing field all across my head.

So anyways, I have watched a ton of videos on youtube about other's dreadlock journeys but not many have strait hair like I do. I am just curious to find my other fellow strait hair neglect dreadlock peeps out there! I would like to know when they really started to notice a change in their hair. I know change isn't going to happen over night but honestly I never really brushed my hair much before I decided I wanted dreadlocks and my hair did absolutely fine. Stick strait fine hair. That's a lie it isn't stick strait it has a bit of wave.

I love that it is teaching me patience if nothing else. Everyone could use a bit more patience :)

Week 4

By Mama Kat, 2012-08-28

I'm into week 4 of my dreadie journey...I'm loving it!!! I feel so free!!! My husband sat and played with/helped separate my hair for over an hour yesterday, that has never happened & we've been together nearly 10 years!!! My kiddos all love my hair, the youngest likes to grab one lock (because yes, they are most definitely locking up!!!) and TUG...luckily I don't have a very tender head =D

Human Hair Extensions

By Andrea4, 2012-08-27

Hello All !! New member to the site, but have been reading it for a while now.

So about 2 years ago, I cut my hair and for whatever reasons, I kept it. Today I found it all braided up and smelling like my shampoo from 2 years ago (crazy, right). ANyways, I was thinking about making some extensions from my old hair.

I guess my first question is will it work?? and will it dread? and is it worth it? how to do it and so on?

I found some youtube clips that will help, but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this that can give me some helpful tips.

In the end, Im sure I'll try it and see how it goes, but I guess I just wanted some personal expert advice !!

Be well All ~~

Dreadlock Timeline-Twist and Rip-Straight/Wavy Hair

By Greg Lokey, 2012-08-27

Ok so I wanted to make a timeline since the ones Ive seen have helped me out so much and gotten me really excited about the whole process.

I wanted to get a bit further before I started posting, but I decided to just get to it.

BEFORE: Pretty old pic but my hair has always been like this

2nd DAY: Really excited!

1 WEEK: At a bbq!

2 WEEKS: You cant really tell how frizzy my head actually is in these hahaha ive been wearing a wool tam to bed everynight and taking a dip in the ocean every couple days.

Ill update again soon!

3 WEEKS OR SO....

Left side

Right side

And I have these little fuzzles forming from loose hairs, I havent messed with them at all, are these baby dreads already???

ABOUT 1 MONTH!!!! Ive finally figured out that im not going to be doing alot of "controlling" and im done trying. Loving having crazy hair all over the place and im starting to get loops and very tight knots!!

Starting to congo in a few place, I think ill just leave them alone and see what happens!

My biggest one right now, its about the size of a crayola marker hahahaa! Its also started to congo with another.

Well thats that! Ill update again in about a month!

Hahaha ok so maybe its been around 7 months now but heres my progress, sorry its a bit hard to see on the count of I had to take them with my webcam.

Wow! I didnt realize how much progress had been made until taking these pictures! Getting there! Ive lost track of time completely... I think its been around 7 months now? Or 8?.... Well around there! Theyve tightened up ALOT at the roots! Lovin it!

My scalp hurts a bit.

By Dee4, 2012-08-25

I washed my dreads yesterday and today I just rinsed with water. Well after about 7 hours later I started feeling slight snagging on my scalp specially on my bangs. I normally wear my dreads back with a pretty loose elastic headband due to work. As soon as I walk out the office I let them loose and sway away with the windows rolled down cruising home. I started feeling around at the root of the one that is bothering me the most and can feel that some hairs are really pulling as I can feel the tension. So what I have been doing is just rubbing the root and my scalpof that one painful dread. I rinse my dreads everyday with plain water due to the fact that I sweat alot. I tried positioning it in a diffrent directions for the past few hours but, it still hurts I have a bout half an inch of undreaded hair at the root. What can I do to relive that snagging feeling I seriously can't stand it anymore and it feels uncomfy :(

How do dreads work?

By Analia Rasta, 2012-08-25

Do they knot from top to bottom or vice versa? for example ...my dreads are 4 months, they'll be 5 months next week! A few of my dreads are getting really knotty in the roots but it's not like spreading down ..the knots aren't spreading down to the bottom. is there a problem? or are they gonna spread eventually? ..Like if I touch the roots, it's super duper hard (that's what she said) ...but then you go down and it's just ..hair
