Yeah you can totally do nothing. Then by the time it's long enough to TnR (if you still want to by then) you'll already have some dreads and what is not dreaded will already be sectioned

to "get your sections right" let your hair section itself
thats the only way to get them right according to what your hair wants to do
you go to a pro and they will section them rigidly in squares so every dread w3ill be exactly the same and boring
plusd they will charge u a reddiculouse amount of money
if u let them do anything more then just section they will screw u up totakly
