Welcome. While back combing is acceptable, it's not very healthy. To spend so much time and energy forcing your hair to be pushed backwards puts a lot of torque on your roots and scalp. It tends to rip out a lot of hairs and make your locks stick up in all directions like sideshow bob. TnR is the best method for starting them other than going natural. Not everyone's ready or willing to just stop everything, though. We understand. But I urge you to look at the dreaducation page, and ask around in the recovery and timeline forums and talk to members who did use back combing. See how they feel about it, and what issues they ran into
Don't bother with the crochet hook. If you only use it sparingly, it'll just take longer for the damage to be really bad. But it will still happen. Since crocheting your locks makes them frizzier, because it breaks hairs into smaller and smaller pieces, you will want to do it over an over again to fix the damage. It's better to just not start.
Welcome. No need to palm roll, though. It only either does nothing or damages them. If you see any progress from your palm rolling, you are damaging your roots. Check out my video on what palm rolling did to mine. You don't see the problems right away. But in a year, when your hair grows out more, you'll see how much it thinned them out and weakened them
